This book presents a selection of seventy classical Chinese poems, lyrics, and short inscriptions from various dynasties, most of which are well-known and frequently recited by the Chinese people. Classical Chinese poetry, as vast and brilliant as the stars, represents one of the most splendid facets of traditional Chinese culture. These poems-whether romantic or realistic, aesthetically refined or subtly melancholic-all embody the sentiments of their poets and the imprints of their times, reflecting the Chinese people's views on nature, ethics, values, and the world at large. The cultivation of cultural soft power is a crucial task in China's international cultural exchanges today. It is the bounden duty of the foreign language academic community to better disseminate classical Chinese poetry abroad and to assist international readers in gaining a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. Over the past century, many scholars have made tremendous efforts in this regard. This book represents the translator's endeavor in his spare time from teaching English, an attempt rooted primarily in his deep affection for classical Chinese poetry, with the hope of sharing the beauty of these poems through the medium of English.

本书选译了七十首中国历代经典诗、词、小令及铭，其中大多是中国人耳熟能详，出口可诵的诗篇。中国古典诗词，繁若星辰，是中国传统文化最灿烂的一部分。这些诗词，或浪漫、或写实、或唯美、或感伤，无不体现了诗人的情怀和时代印记，潜藏着中华民族的自然观、伦理观、价值观和世界观。文化软实力建设是当今中国对外文化交流的一个重要任务，如何更好地把中国古典诗词传播到国外，帮助国外读者更好地了解中国文化是外语界的义不容辞的职责。近百年来，很多学者在这一方面已经做出了巨大努力。本书是译者在英语教学之余的一种尝试，而这一尝试的根源主要来自于译者对中国古诗词的热爱，希望能通过英语把中国古诗词的美分享出去。

Yin Shaodong is a teacher at the School of Foreign Languages and Literature, Yunnan Normal University. His recent publications include two translated works: The Golden Flute and A Study of the Sadu Language (co-translated); a personal poetry collection, The Silent Breeze; two textbooks (co-edited); and several academic articles.

尹绍东，云南师范大学外国语学院教师。近年来主要出版物包括两部译著：《金笛》、《撒都语研究》（合译），一部个人诗集：《清风无语》，两部教材（合编），及多篇学术文章。
