A Word Behind Thee

He spoke to Abraham. He spoke to Moses. He spoke to a boy asleep in the temple.
Somewhere along the way, we decided He was finished.
We still say we believe God speaks. We say it in the past tense. We have made a museum of the burning bush and put a rope across the front of it - and then we wonder why the Christian life feels like managing a set of correct opinions instead of following a Person.
This book has one sentence in it:
The Lord is real. He speaks. If you listen - within - He will tell you what to do. And every one of us should lead that life.
You have already thought of the objection. So has the author. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Men have wrecked marriages, emptied bank accounts, and walked away from their posts insisting the Lord told them to - and it was not the Lord. Any book that tells you to obey the voice within and does not answer Jeremiah has either endangered you or wasted your time.
A Word Behind Thee does not dodge that question. It is built on it.
Working verse by verse through Scripture, this book traces the God who has never once been silent - the ten utterances that spoke a universe into being, the voice that walked in the garden looking for a hiding man, the mountain where God deliberately withheld a form and gave a word instead, the day Israel begged for a middleman, and the Son whose very name is the Word. Then it asks the harder question: how does an ordinary person tell His voice from his own appetite? The answer is not a feeling. It is seven scriptural tests, laid out plainly, that any believer can apply to anything he thinks he has heard.
