Advances in Computational Solutions

This book is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Department of Computer Science at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (Cinvestav), located in Mexico City, Mexico. It contains contributions from current and former members of this department, together with some of their collaborators.

This book is divided into four parts, which coincide with the areas of the department: Theoretical Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computing Systems, and Information Systems.

It contains chapters with contributions to the research areas of Cryptography, Evolutionary Computation, and Dynamical Systems. Some others present surveys, studies, and tutorials on hot topics such as large language models, deep learning, polar graphs, coloring geometric graphs, zero-knowledge protocols, fully homomorphic encryption over the torus, multi-objective optimization, detection of white cells in blood smear images, and learning systems on smart TVs. Also, there are chapters with novel contributions, such as the search for Bent functions, algebraic calculations in quantum communication, and the development of a knowledge base on diabetes using ontologies. Applications of Artificial Intelligence are also presented, including predicting the relevance of positive emotion to the quality of life in breast cancer patients, and integrating ARIMA models and neuronal networks for enhanced wind power forecasting and missing data recovery.

This book hence presents a contemporary testimony of the research done at the Department of Computer Science of the Cinvestav and underlines its vision to be a national and international referent in computer science research.
