They were notignorant of that high difpleafure which God had' manifefily {hewn againfi the principal Authors of that firfl: Sedition, who under the pretence of regulating the Authority of his two Chief Miniżers, had put a bażie, as it were, upon God himfelf, whofe Servants and Minil'ters they were. The Phaiiifees therefore were content, that; both the chief-prież and the Supreme Prince {hould Hill. Pre'ferve their rank, and fiation,as in former times; bur {0, that neither of them {hould be able to a& of weight and moment, but as direéted by their inżuenced by their affiżance. For the obtaining of which point, what arts they ufed, what praélices they fer on foot, and by what artifices they prevailed upon mens afi feé'tions; as alfo into what calamities they plunged that Nation by the abure of their Authority, having once oh rained it, {hall be laid down at large in the following Hi Frory. All the particulars whereof, the Reader is defired to obferve difiinéily, that he may fee how punflually the Presbyterians of our times have played the Phari fees; as well in the getting of their power by Ież'en mg the Authority both of Prince and Prelate, as in ex afpe'rating the people to a dangerous War for the de żrnżion of them both; the calling in of Foreign forces to abet their quarrel; the frafiions and divifions amonglt themfelvcss and the mofi woful Defolation which they have brought upon ithe happież: and molt żourilhing Church which the Sun of Righteouhiefs ever {hined on {ince the Primitive times.
