This book explores one of the most debated questions of antiquity: Were the ancient Macedonians Greek? Drawing on literary, linguistic, archaeological, and epigraphic evidence, it examines the identity of the Macedonians through the lens of the ancient world rather than modern politics. The book analyzes ancient Greek concepts of identity, culture, language, and religion to show how the Macedonians were perceived by both Greeks and non-Greeks alike. Through inscriptions, personal names, religious practices, historical testimonies, and participation in Panhellenic institutions, it presents a systematic and evidence-based study of Macedonia's place within the Greek world. It also addresses modern scholarly objections and disputed interpretations by closely examining the original ancient sources. Written for both general readers and history enthusiasts, this work combines scholarly rigor with accessible language, inviting readers to explore the evidence and draw their own conclusions.
