ANTES

ANTES: Before The Veil is a genre-blending supernatural thriller that weaves horror, folklore, and cultural identity into a chilling and emotionally resonant story.

Melina Del Valle is finally living her dream. Her new art gallery in the Bronx is more than a creative space. It is a tribute to her community and a reflection of everything she has overcome. But when a haunting new painting by the elusive artist Rey Montenegro arrives, something inside the gallery begins to shift. Lights flicker. Shadows stretch. A dense fog creeps through the streets. An ancient force is awakening, and it has found its way into Melina's world.

As unsettling visions and unexplained events unfold, Melina is pulled into a mystery that reaches far beyond the borough. In Mexico City, a folklore scholar follows sacred clues rooted in ancestral magic. In Bolivia, Indigenous spiritual leaders sense a coming war. In New York, powerful figures observe from the shadows as the veil between worlds grows thin.

At the center of it all is Rey Montenegro. Brilliant and tormented, he paints with more than just skill. His art is alive. His latest piece is not just a painting but a warning, and the danger it carries could destroy everything Melina loves.

Set against the backdrop of a vibrant Bronx art scene and infused with Latin American myth, Before The Veil is a story of identity, legacy, and survival. It explores the emotional cost of generational trauma and the strength of community when confronting the unknown.

For readers who enjoy slow-burning supernatural suspense, rich cultural themes, and complex female protagonists, this novel offers a fresh voice in horror and speculative fiction. Fans of Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Tananarive Due, and Victor LaValle will find themselves right at home.

The past is not buried. It is watching. And Melina must decide who she is before the veil fully lifts.
