Chief Engineer Bríd Gallagher knows the flagship MV Solas better than almost anyone alive. When seawater enters a compartment that should be dry, she brings thousands of passengers home safely. But the damage points towards a change made during the ship's construction five years earlier-and a question nobody ever properly answered.

The independent structural specialist appointed to investigate is Luca Ferraro. Brilliant, infuriating Luca, whose warning was lost in the paperwork before he vanished from Bríd's life. She remembers the departure. He remembers why he was forced off the project. Neither has forgotten the kiss that made everything worse.

Now Solas is stranded in a Belfast dry dock, every new test threatens the company's future, and Bríd and Luca must work side by side to discover what really failed. Between missing records, unforgiving steel and a history neither can revise, they find the one thing neither expected: another chance.
