Down The Crawdad Hole

A little backyard. A big adventure. And one very surprising invitation.

Five boys have spent the summer helping crawdads get safely home. They never imagined that one of those crawdads would return to say thank you-or invite them into a secret world beneath their feet.

With a few wonderfully silly magic words, the boys shrink to the size of their new friend, Mr. Crawdad, and follow him underground.

Welcome to Crawdad Land!

Here, singing tadpoles prepare long banquet tables, friendly crawdads gather for their Thanksgiving celebration, and five astonished boys are the guests of honor. Everything looks splendid-until the food arrives.

Beetles? Bugs? Muddy water?

Surely their hosts don't expect them to eat THAT!

Filled with colorful illustrations, gentle humor, and the wonder of childhood imagination, Down The Crawdad Hole by Joan Savilla celebrates the friendships that can grow from a simple act of kindness.

Whether children explore the story themselves or snuggle close while a parent or grandparent reads aloud, this warmhearted adventure invites families to laugh, wonder, and imagine together.

Come along with Mr. Crawdad. There's a whole world waiting beneath the backyard tree.
