From the Mississippi to the Sea

"From the Mississippi to the Sea" is the compelling autobiography of Admiral Robert E. Coontz, a pivotal figure in American naval history who rose from a childhood in Missouri to become the Chief of Naval Operations. This detailed memoir traces Coontz's journey through the United States Naval Academy and his subsequent rise through the ranks during a transformative era for the U.S. Navy. Coontz provides firsthand accounts of significant historical milestones, including his service during the Spanish-American War and his participation in the world-renowned cruise of the Great White Fleet.

Beyond the tactical and strategic elements of naval life, Coontz offers a personal perspective on the evolution of American maritime power at the turn of the 20th century. His narrative captures the challenges of command, the intricacies of naval administration, and the diplomatic role of the Navy in international affairs. "From the Mississippi to the Sea" serves as an invaluable primary source for those interested in military leadership, naval history, and the professionalization of the American armed forces. The work stands as a testament to a life dedicated to service and a comprehensive look at the maritime heritage of the United States.
