Salvaged

Nikki and Erik Halvorson were dedicated to salvage: preserving historical homes and buildings in their Iowa hometown from destruction. Failing that, they would save from the wreckage anything that still had life in it.

The young couple fell in love with a Victorian home they knew had to be theirs. It needed some work, but they were willing to take it on. When they found a staircase in the kitchen that had been closed off from the upper floor, halfway up the steps, it became their dream: open up that staircase, see what story awaited them.

Five years after discovering those hidden, sealed stairs, Erik - with a look of joy and determination - opened it up, and all the dust and debris of the unknown rained down.

Nine months later, all Nikki had left was the debris of the unknown.

"Salvaged: A Reclaimed Life" tells the story of Nikki and Erik's journey through a childhood as best friends, into a love that was inevitable, toward a future that focused on saving pieces of the past, interrupted by horrifying news that left Nikki to face the future without him. Through the painful years that followed, Nikki's memories of Erik, paired with love old and new, guided her one step at a time through a rehabilitation of her house and herself.
