Private security is one of the largest workforces in the world, yet it is still treated as an occupation rather than a profession. Licensing has brought order, but not professional standing. This book proposes a remedy: the Security Science Professionalisation Matrix (SSPM), a single framework of qualifications and professional standing for security practitioners.
Building on the case made in Volume 1, the book sets out the architecture of the matrix. Its levels run from an optional orientation below the licence to doctoral study, across twenty-four sectors within one profession. It explains how practitioners would be assessed and how quality would be assured, and how a code of conduct would be enforced. It considers how the profession would be governed and kept independent, what the framework would cost and who would pay, how qualifications could be recognised across borders, and which titles and post-nominals practitioners could earn. It closes with eight testable propositions and the design of a pilot, so that the framework can be judged by evidence.
Written by the framework s designer, the book states plainly what the design depends on and which institutions have still to be created. It is a practical blueprint for turning security into a recognised profession.
