Sovereign Ground is a poetic journey through love, longing, awakening, desire, loss, and the radical act of choosing yourself.

Across twenty two poems, Kay Ali Cole traces the evolution of a woman who has carried too much, loved deeply, questioned what she was willing to accept, and ultimately returned home to herself.

Beginning with the exhaustion of the Tired Warrior and moving through remembrance, romance, sensuality, grief, laughter, liberation, and self possession, Sovereign Ground explores the spaces between who a woman has been and who she is becoming.

These poems do not reject love. They ask for a love worthy of the woman who has learned to love herself.
