The Bag

Wishes do come true! And for Alice Wettin, she won't even have to make a wish. The bag knows just what she needs...

From the moment Alice arrived at the out-of-the-way estate sale, she felt drawn to the ancient bag in the dusty bin. And when she picked it up, the soft, worn leather tingled inexplicably in her hands. Reaching inside, the bag delivered a snapping shock that prickled up her arms.

And suddenly the estate owner was beside Alice, saying, "It seems to like you." And when the tassel of the bag tickled the back of Alice's hand in the breeze, the woman continued, "You see, the bag chooses the person it belongs to, and whomever it belongs to, it belongs for life."

Strange way to put it.

And then the woman purred, "I think it wants to belong to you..."

What an enticing notion, that she'd been chosen. Alice was sold. But as she headed home to her dreary life, eyeing the worn bag, sagging on her passenger seat, she felt stupid. How could she believe she'd been chosen? By a bag? I think it wants to belong to you... What did that even mean?
