In the somber France of the seventeenth century, Éléonore de Montfaucon lives in hiding among the salt marshes of Guérande, in a house without coats of arms, her body ravaged by black vitro: a mysterious substance that has bound her to the abyss and calls to her every night from the depths of the sea. When her elderly servant Jérôme delivers a bundle left by her father before his condemnation, Éléonore discovers a map engraved on thin plates of silver and obsidian. It leads not to a treasure, but to the Black Heart of the Sea, a secret machine buried beneath Mont-Saint-Michel, capable of controlling the tides and redrawing the map of Europe.

Meanwhile, in Paris, Cardinal Richelieu receives alarming reports from the Normandy coast: submerged bells ringing at low tide, abandoned ships with no crews aboard, and villages evacuated by inhabitants terrified of the so-called pilgrims without shadows. He summons D'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis and entrusts them with an unofficial mission: find Éléonore, if she is indeed alive, and bring her to him, for she alone can understand the threat. But the order conceals a darker clause: if the duchess can no longer be separated from the danger she carries within her, the musketeers must prevent her from falling into anyone else's hands, whatever the cost.

The journey toward Normandy becomes a descent into a land where reason begins to falter. The four men pass through deserted villages, churches desecrated by circles of seashells and black sand, and inns inhabited by fear. They witness the passage of the pilgrims without shadows, silent, almost incorporeal figures who seem made of memory rather than flesh, advancing toward the mount as though summoned by a will submerged beneath the waters. D'Artagnan realizes that the same summons might draw Éléonore, and that the true conflict will be not merely political but deeply personal: between obedience to Richelieu and his undying feelings for a woman regarded as an enemy.

Éléonore, too, makes her way toward Mont-Saint-Michel, determined to reach the Black Heart before anyone else and shut it down. But along her path appears Isabeau de Vauclair, a noblewoman believed dead and leader of the Brotherhood of the Empty Tide, an organization of fallen nobles, exiled engineers, disillusioned clergymen, and merchants of death who seek to awaken the machine and overthrow the rule of kings. Isabeau reveals a terrible truth to Éléonore: the black vitro has not merely poisoned her. It has made her akin to the Black Heart, transforming her into the living key capable of opening it.

The destinies of the musketeers and the duchess converge in a flooded chapel, amid ruins, black water, and submerged presences. D'Artagnan finds her marked by fever and the summons, yet still clearheaded, proud, and determined not to become an instrument of the Brotherhood. Athos grasps the moral stakes of the mission, Porthos brings practicality and courage, and Aramis interprets the religious signs of a threat poised somewhere between forbidden science and sacrilege. From that moment onward, the four are no longer pursuing a suspected traitor: they are accompanying a woman fighting against the evil consuming her.

As they approach Mont-Saint-Michel, the tides begin to behave impossibly, defying every law of nature. Agents of the Brotherhood attempt to capture Éléonore alive, while the summons of the Black Heart grows stronger with every step. The danger mounts alongside the moral tension, until loyalty itself is put to the test. The mission becomes a race against time: enter beneath the mount, descend through its hidden passages, and prevent Isabeau from completing the awakening. Amid duels, visions of the sea, secret tunnels, and restrained love, D'Artagnan and Éléonore must confront the decisive question: what remains of love, honor, and freedom when the sea itself demands to speak through a woman's blood?
