The Dandakaranya reimagines the exile of Raghav and Lakshman as a time-looped mystery. A forest is shaped like the serpent Vasuki and kept alive by the Goddess so that Shiva can heal from the poison of the churning. A hidden account of stolen time leaks through it, and the brothers are its guarantors without knowing it.
The book is built like a coil. Part One spirals inward, giving effects before causes. Part Two braids seven strands (Raghav, Lakshman, Varad, Dashagriva, Parvati, the fly and Bali) and brings them to one point. Each figure from the tradition is given a hidden motive that ties back to the churning, and the Shiva-bhakta against Shiva-bhakta conflict at the heart of the war becomes a quarrel about faith, not a contest of strength.
It will suit readers of mythic retellings who like a structured plot and morally grey gods, and who want the old stories to be re-asked and not merely repeated.
