The Ultimate Omarchy Linux Book

You wanted a tiling desktop. You opened eleven tabs of other people's dotfiles, found that every one of them assumed you already knew something you didn't, and closed the laptop. That isn't a skill problem. The Linux desktop charges an assembly tax, and it is levied against taste rather than ability.

Omarchy is what happens when one person pays that tax in public and hands you the receipt: a complete, opinionated Arch and Hyprland desktop where all four hundred decisions are already made and already agree with each other. This book gets you from a downloaded ISO to a machine you can actually operate and modify.

Written against Quattro, which is the point. Version 4.0 replaced the entire desktop shell, moved the system's internals into packages, and converted every Hyprland config to Lua. Guides written against version 3 do not describe files that moved. They describe files that no longer exist.

One idea runs underneath all of it. Nearly every design decision in this system is the same decision at a different layer, and once you can see it you can predict how the machine behaves in places nobody taught you. That is the chapter the title is really about.

This book is for you if you live in a terminal, have never run a tiling window manager, and would rather understand a system than memorize it. It is not for you if you need Secure Boot, run Apple Silicon, or want to choose every component yourself. The first chapter says so plainly, and so does the last.
