The Vizier of Saraqusta

An extraordinary mind in a world ruled by ambition, fanaticism and violence.

In the year 1115, in Muslim Spain, the brilliant philosopher, physician and scientist Ibn Bayyah-known to posterity as Avempace-is unexpectedly appointed vizier of Saraqusta (present-day Zaragoza). A man devoted to knowledge, reason and the pursuit of truth, he finds himself thrust into the dangerous world of politics, where intelligence is often less valuable than cunning and honesty can be a fatal weakness.

Determined to govern through justice rather than fear, Ibn Bayyah attempts to transform his city into a model of prosperity and enlightenment. But his revolutionary ideas soon provoke the hostility of ambitious courtiers, religious fanatics and powerful enemies. Meanwhile, his passionate relationship with a remarkable woman reveals a more intimate side of a man who has devoted his life to wisdom.

Against the magnificent backdrop of medieval Al-Andalus, The Vizier of Saraqusta combines political intrigue, philosophical debate, forbidden love and historical drama. Inspired by the life of one of the most fascinating thinkers of Islamic Spain, it tells the story of a man who dared to challenge the prejudices of his age.

A compelling historical novel about the eternal conflict between reason and fanaticism, knowledge and power, freedom and intolerance.
