The White Friars an Outline Carmelite History

"The White Friars an Outline Carmelite History" provides a comprehensive overview of the origins, development, and enduring legacy of the Order of the Brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel. Authored by Rev. P.E. Magennis, this work meticulously traces the spiritual and structural evolution of the Carmelites from their early days on Mount Carmel through their transition to Europe and their subsequent growth as a mendicant order.

The narrative explores the historical significance of the White Friars-so named for their distinctive white mantles-highlighting their contributions to Catholic theology, education, and missionary work. Readers will discover the challenges faced by the order across various centuries, including periods of reform and expansion. Magennis offers insights into the lives of notable figures within the order and the development of Carmelite spirituality, which emphasizes prayer, contemplation, and devotion to the Virgin Mary.
