The common expression of the "Yo-Yo Diet" describes dieting using the metaphor of a
Yo-Yo toy that goes down and then returns to the hand that started it. The idea is
that those that diet end up losing some weight, but afterwards typically return
to the starting weight or even exceeding it!
In this book, I describe my own Yo-Yo dieting experience, the journey of which lasted
about twenty-five years. I also provide background information, beginning with how
our government and medical institutions have often worked against the will of the
people, which is contrary to what is efficently expressed in our Declaration of
Independence.
In the chapter called, "My Journey," after discussing my own experiences, I brought
forth the idea that in order to lose weight, the fundamental principle is that you must
consume less than your body burns! To maintain weight loss, you must consume about
the same as your body burns.
If anyone can benefit from my own experience and find the discipline to take control
of their own food consumption to not only lose weight but maintain it afterwards,
that would be a good thing, in my opinion.
I have found that being able to stick with a diet requires discipline. Establishing
other daily disciplines has helped me in securing my own discipline of a lifestyle
which has enabled me to maintain a healthy weight after losing a significant amount!
Beginning in January 1980, I started a Scripture reading schedule, which I have
been able to continue ever since. That discipline changed my life! Moreover,
I have maintained a daily reading of the Jewish Scriptures, in both Hebrew and
English, as well as beginning my day by reading The Ten Commandments from
Exodus 20 (the Hebrew is from the Leningrad Codex).
I would recommend that anyone who wants to accomplish anything significant to have
a special time to begin each day which involves a spiritual component, if for
no other reason than to establish a disciplined approach to life, but also to
provide a foundation of which to center its focus!
In my opinion, having a discipline of reading the Jewish Scriptures every day is a great way
to start the day. If you just can't bring yourself to do that, in my opinion, you are
missing out on a key spiritual component to life; but that is your decision to make.
Moreover, if you don't read Hebrew, there are many good English translations you can choose from,
including mine (on my website, https://www.the-iconoclast.org, I have the complete
Jewish Scriptures available. The Hebrew is taken from the Westminster Leningrad Codex (WLC),
and the English from the Jewish Publication Society version of 1917. I have changed some of the
Hebrew to correspond to the actual Leningrad Codex as well as the English, notes of which
appear at the bottom of my online edition, https://www.the-iconoclast.org/resources/tanakh/tanakh.php.)!
Regardless, in my opinion, lifestyle changes require discipline!
Establishing a regular, daily discipline goes a long way in establishing other ones,
including dieting!
