Their Devil

Love is toxic. We are born in blood and die in fire. Returned to the earth to recycle; life is never-ending.
We pray our souls are saved-that we are worthy-our evil deeds forgiven.

I understood at five, how dangerous love could be as my mother pointed a twenty-two at my father, screaming at him to run.

The lesser of two evils, he left us with a malevolent queen, intent on self-destruction.
We were pawns in her manipulative game, trophies to be displayed to friends.
We lived in a narcissist's playground-discarded, shelved again, once our purpose was served.

Love is toxic-deadly. We have no control over the family into which we are born, so we create our own.
My chosen were conceived in blood, and shared experience.
