TokyoPaul's Guide to Japanese Universities

Japan has 800 universities. Nobody has ever written an honest English-language guide to the top 100 - until now.

TokyoPaul's Guide to Japanese Universities profiles 100 institutions with the depth and candour that students, families, and employers actually need. Every profile covers academic strengths, career outcomes, alumni network quality, and a frank TokyoPaul's Verdict - the kind of direct assessment that official university materials will never give you.

What makes this guide different:

The rankings in this book are TokyoPaul's own - built on career outcomes, alumni network strength, and real-world utility, not just research output. That's why Waseda ranks above universities that beat it in global research metrics. It's why Hitotsubashi (#8) sits above larger institutions: its graduates dominate Japan's financial sector at rates no other university matches. And it's why ICU (#10) appears at all - producing bilingual professionals that corporations actively compete to hire.

Inside this guide:

• 30 in-depth profiles (universities #1-30) - academic culture, career pipelines, Practical Guide (how to apply, annual budget, where to live, insider tip) and frank Verdict
• 70 focused profiles (universities #31-100) - key strengths, career outcomes, and Verdict for every institution
• Quick Reference Tables - University tiers at a glance, tuition by type, career goals guide
• TokyoPaul's Verdict on every institution - direct, opinionated, useful
• 5 appendices: rankings reference, tuition guide, scholarship handbook, entrance exam explainer, glossary
• Alphabetical index of all 100 universities in English and Japanese
• Campus photographs for 60+ universities
