Viability and Sustainability of Small-Scale Fisheries in Latin America and The Caribbean

This volume shares essential insights, lessons learned and experience gained regarding the main challenges faced by small-scale fisheries in the Latin America and Caribbean region in order to maintain its viability while also fostering improvements in governance. One of the main goals of fisheries governance is to promote viability and sustainability in small-scale fishing communities. This is not an easy task given the considerable external and internal pressures, including environmental factors and competition with other economic sectors pursuing expansion in the coastal region. Several efforts have been made in Latin America and the Caribbean to overcome these challenges, most notably through different forms of participatory governance.
