Vital pulp therapy (VPT) comprises a group of biologically based procedures aimed at preserving the vitality and function of the dental pulp following pulpal injury. The contemporary approach to VPT has shifted from simply treating reversible inflammation to actively promoting pulp healing and maintaining the natural pulp-dentin complex whenever possible.VPT includes procedures such as indirect pulp treatment, direct pulp capping, partial pulpotomy, and full pulpotomy. Advances in pulp diagnosis, magnification, hemostasis control, adhesive dentistry, and bioactive calcium-silicate materials have significantly expanded its clinical indications. Materials such as mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and hydraulic calcium-silicate cements provide favorable sealing ability, biocompatibility, and bioactivity, supporting hard-tissue barrier formation and pulp healing.Successful VPT depends on accurate case selection, adequate isolation, effective caries control, controlled hemorrhage, appropriate biomaterial placement, and a well-sealed definitive restoration.
