" [René Heyer] -- "For Roland Sublon, a doctor, priest and psychoanalyst, the body, soul and spirit are not only his domains of specialization, they interact – just as practice and theory do; for as a practitioner in these fields, he also works as a researcher and a teacher: head of practical studies in anatomy, professor of moral theology, member of the Freudian School in Paris. This commented reading of the entire Gospel of Saint John by Roland Sublon is the fruit of his clinch with the text: a struggle against its high points and its distance, a combat with the angel – the young man who is the very symbol of the evangelist. The first challenge the reading takes up is to be direct, to present the commentary alongside the text, at the same level, with no intermediary distance. It is the initial reader's challenge, for it supposes that the listener or the reader can receive it without any preparation or previous knowledge. Yet the reading remains an informed commentary of antique history, biblical history, historico-critical exegesis, semiotic and theological analysis. Roland Sublon has dared to question the Gospel, always from the inside, in precise passages: what does it mean to eat the flesh and the blood? To eat what is spoken? What is the voice in relation to the word? The gaze in relation to vision? Why work on the Sabbath day? What does 'I am the way' mean?' [René Heyer]
