When I first started out as a missionnary in Mexico I was on a learning curve that may have approached being vertical.
I had read a hundred mission biographies. I knew the life of Paul and the other Apostles in great detail. I knew what Jesus said as well as could be expected of a missionary. And I knew the Kingdom of God is unlike any other kingdom.
But I often found myself immersed in a reality that amazed me. I was an NPC, a Non Playing Character, out of a video game, watching events unfold outside of my control or understanding. Then I became part of the game again and had to deal with it.
I wouldn't undo any of these experiences, even if I could. The first four stories are from a three-week trip with a team I never worked with again and involving churches I never worked with again. I realized later that when you are in a place that won't affect your main ministry, God can work on things in your life that he can't otherwise work on.
