Die Arbeit untersucht anhand akustischer und perzeptiver Daten, ob es im Deutschen tatsächlich, wie allgemein angenommen, einheitliche und satztypspezifische Anpassungsstrategien für Intonationsverläufe in bestimmten segmentellen Kontexten gibt - Trunkierung und Kompression. Anhand eines umfangreichen Lesesprachekorpus mit 26.000 Äußerungen von 30 Sprechern konnte gezeigt werden, dass Sprecher keine universellen, sondern individuelle Strategien verwenden. Durch die Analyse des Spontansprachekorpus und eines Perzeptionsexperiments wird zudem deutlich, dass Hörer und Sprecher gleichermaßen eine Vielzahl an Merkmalen neben der Intonation zur Kodierung, bzw. Dekodierung, von Satztypen verwenden (u.a. Semantik).
