Drawing on 'hands-on' experience from workshops and interviews, "Performance Practice and Process: Contemporary (Women) Practitioners" explores the work of eight 'gender aware' theatre and performance artists and companies; Bobby Baker, Curious, SuAndi, Sarah Daniels, Split Britches, Rebecca Prichard, Vayu Naidu and Jenny Eclair. In this innovative book, Elaine Aston and Geraldine Harris offer rare insights into the processes as well as the practice of these internationally renowned artists and employ an 'inside', practical approach to understanding their ground-breaking and politically radical theatre and performance work. Covering performance art, live art, performance poetry, playwriting, performance storytelling, radio drama, stand-up comedy and site-specific performance, Aston and Harris combine critical analysis with practical detail that offers inspiration to those studying and making innovative and/or politically resistant performance. Supported by a website with examples of relevant process and practice (images, film footage, creative writing), this will be an essential resource for students of Theatre and Performance, Women's Studies and Gender Studies.
