Die vorliegende Arbeit zeigt detailliert den schachbrettartigen 2d-Atomaufbau der Elemente des Periodensystems (PSE) und erklärt damit erstmals die chemischen Eigenschaften und den Aufbau des PSE mit einem Proton-Neutron-System statt mit einem Elektronen-System. Bisher wurden die Perioden und Gruppen des PSE mit dem in den 1910er bis 1920er Jahren entwickelten Elektronen-System erklärt. Die Analyse der Theorie des Elektronen-Systems zeigt jedoch Unzulänglichkeiten, die eine alternative Erklärungsgrundlage überfällig erscheinen lassen.
